- Thames Water has stated that its hosepipe ban will remain in place until the region receives significant and prolonged rainfall.
- Recent September rainfall was insufficient to recover from an exceptionally dry spring and summer across London and the South East.
- Rainfall between March and August was less than half of the long-term average, leaving London reservoir levels at just 59 per cent.
- Thames Water head of water resources Julie Morton confirmed that groundwater and soil moisture levels remain significantly below average.
- The restrictions affect more than 10 million customers across London and the Thames Valley and have been active since July.
