In a remarkable achievement for the district, Hoshiarpur has secured the first position in Punjab in registrations under the National Organ and Tissue Transplant Organization (NOTTO) campaign. According to the latest figures, Hoshiarpur recorded an impressive 2,018 organ donation registrations, the highest among all districts in the state. Patiala ranked second with 1,147 registrations, while Ludhiana secured third place with 968 registrations.
The achievement reflects the growing awareness and positive response of the public towards the noble cause of organ and tissue donation. It has been made possible through the continuous efforts and commitment of the Eye Donation Association, Hoshiarpur, which has been actively serving society for the past 26 years. The Association, with the support of the District Health Authorities, District Administration and the Directorate of Medical Education and Research, Punjab, has played a crucial role in motivating people to come forward for organ donation registration.
Over the years, the association has organised a large number of awareness campaigns, educational seminars, counselling sessions and motivational programmes across the district. These initiatives have helped spread awareness regarding the importance of organ and eye donation and encouraged citizens to pledge their organs for saving precious human lives after death.
Bahadur Singh Sunet, patron of the association, said, “Organ donation is the greatest gift one human being can offer to another. By pledging our organs, we can continue to give life and hope even after death. The overwhelming response from the people of Hoshiarpur shows that society is becoming more aware and compassionate towards this noble mission."
The office-bearers of the association stated that organ donation is one of the greatest humanitarian acts, as a single donor can save multiple lives. They emphasised that increasing public awareness and removing misconceptions related to organ donation are essential for strengthening the movement further.
In recognition of the collective efforts behind this success, the association has submitted a representation to Civil Surgeon Dr Mandeep Kamal, requesting that the matter be forwarded to the Deputy Commissioner and the Punjab Health Minister. The representation seeks appreciation and recognition for the departments, volunteers, social workers and healthcare teams who have contributed significantly to the campaign and helped Hoshiarpur emerge as the leading district in Punjab.
Members of the association also appealed to the general public to actively participate in organ donation registration and support this life-saving mission. They said that thousands of patients suffering from organ failure are waiting for transplants and increased participation from society can offer them a new lease of life.
Those present on the occasion included Bahadur Singh Sunet, Manmohan Singh, Suresh Chand Kapatia, Baljit Singh, Harbhajan Singh, Gurpal Singh, Gurpreet Singh, Onkar Singh Dhami, Santosh Saini and Lakhwinder Kaur Dimpi.
