In a recent development at the Sessions Court, Moh Roffi Ab Rahman, an assistant medical officer stationed at Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Hospital (HoSHAS) Temerloh, found himself facing repercussions for his involvement in bribery activities linked to the management of deceased individuals three years prior. Judge Mohd Sabri Ismail presided over the proceedings, wherein Moh Roffi, aged 58, opted to plead guilty to three charges leveled against him. Consequently, the court imposed a fine amounting to RM3,000 on Moh Roffi, with an additional stipulation of 18 months' imprisonment should he default on the payment.
The charges stem from allegations that Moh Roffi, employed at the HoSHAS Forensic Medicine Unit, accepted bribes totaling RM1,600. These illicit funds were purportedly transferred to his bank account by two individuals involved in the handling of deceased individuals and their remains at a bank located in Bandar Pusat Jengka, Bandar Jengka. The transactions occurred over a period extending from April 8 to June 27, 2021. Under Section 165 of the Penal Code, Moh Roffi faced a maximum penalty of two years' imprisonment, a fine, or both, upon conviction.
The court, in its sentencing, allocated fines of RM1,400, RM600, and RM1,000 for the three respective charges brought against Moh Roffi. This verdict comes after Moh Roffi's initial plea of not guilty to 12 charges filed against him on October 19 of the previous year. These charges pertained to the alleged receipt of sums totaling RM3,350 in connection with the management of deceased individuals at the hospital. However, nine of these additional charges were earlier designated as 'taken into consideration' (TIC) under Section 171A of the Criminal Procedure Code.
The legal proceedings were spearheaded by Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Deputy Public Prosecutor Rifah Izzati Abdul Mutalif, while Moh Roffi was represented by attorney Shahidah Muslimah Roslan. As the case unfolds, it underscores the importance of upholding integrity and ethical conduct within the medical profession, particularly concerning sensitive matters such as the handling of deceased individuals.
