HOT and dry weather conditions are expected to persist across much of Peninsular Malaysia, especially in the northern states, until January 31, according to the Malaysian Meteorological Department (METMalaysia).

METMalaysia director-general Dr Mohd Hisham Mohd Anip said the forecast was based on assessments from several weather prediction models currently in use by the department.

During the same period, a wind convergence system is expected to begin forming over Sabah, Labuan and Sarawak from January 29 through January 31.

“This phenomenon has the potential to trigger thunderstorms accompanied by heavy and prolonged rainfall in the affected areas,” he said in a statement.

In light of the forecast, the public has been advised to regularly monitor the latest weather updates through METMalaysia’s official website, the department’s social media platforms and the myCuaca application to ensure that information received is accurate and reliable. - January 25, 2026
