House lawmakers given copies of impeach articles vs VP Duterte

MANILA, Philippines — Lawmakers of the House of Representatives have been provided with copies of the impeachment articles against Vice President Sara Duterte ahead of the expected vote on whether to send the matter to the Senate for trial.

House Deputy Majority Leader and Manila 1st District Rep. Ernesto Dionisio Jr. said on Wednesday evening during plenary session that "we have been informed by the secretary general that as earlier directed by the House, the following have been accomplished: Number one, furnishing the members with electronic copies of Committee Report No. 261 containing House Resolution No. 989 including its annexes through their respective registered e-mail addresses; Number 2, posting of electronic copies in downloadable form of Committee Report No. 261 containing House Resolution No. 989 including its annexes in the House website; and number three, distribution of the printed copies of Committee Report No. 261 containing House Resolution No. 989."

The resolution sets forth the impeachment articles.

Batangas 2nd District Rep. Gerville Luistro, the chairman of the House's Justice commitree, had said in an interview on ANC's "Headstart" that the Supreme Court required that House members be provided with a copy of the articles of impeachment with the evidence.

"They should be given reasonable time to read and study the same before the plenary vote. That's part of due process, that it is studied", Luistro said in Filipino and English in that interview.
