MANILA, Philippines — The House of Representatives on Tuesday approved House Bill 7704 which aimed to further protect women against discrimination in employment.
If passed into law, the measure would keep the prohibition against paying women less than males for work equal in value.
The bill aimed to add assignment and employment benefits to covered areas, expanding the ban on favoring males over females in promotion.
It also bars employers from favoring males over females in dismissal or in implementing retrenchment policies.
It also bars dismissal because of pregnancy or possible subsequent pregnancy.
The protection for women against dismissal meant to prevent them from getting benefits under the Labor Code is kept in the bill.
