
KOTA KINABALU: A housewife was fined RM10,000 or two months’ jail in default by the Sessions Court here on Thursday for posting a false statement on Facebook linking children of prominent figures to the Zara Qairina Mahathir case.
Asmaziah Sedek (pic), 32, admitted to making the posting on July 29 this year under a Facebook profile bearing the name “Ash Qiey”.
She was charged before Judge Marlina Ibrahim under Section 233(1)(a) of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, which covers improper use of network facilities.
The offence is punishable under Section 233(2) of the same Act, which provides for a fine of up to RM500,000 or imprisonment for up to two years, or both.
The law also allows for a further fine of RM5,000 for each day the offence continues after conviction.
