Kota Kinabalu: The Housing and Urban Development Board (LPPB) will proceed with the proposed commercial development project on LPPB land in Pekan Melalap.

State Assistant Minister of Local Government and Housing, Datuk Isnin Aliasnih @Liasnih, said LPPB had advertised through its website and invited several developers to participate, but no company has so far shown interest in establishing a joint venture to develop the land.

“During the previous government, LPPB received development proposals for shop lots on a joint-venture basis from a company.

“However, the discussion was not continued by the company,” he said in response to a question from Melalap Assemblyman Datuk Peter Anthony at the State Assembly.

Isnin said the Ministry welcomes any proposal from the Melalap Assemblyman if there is a development proposal or suitable joint venture partners identified to develop the land and submit them to the Ministry or directly to LPPB for further action.

Meanwhile, Minister of Local Government and Housing Datuk Seri Dr Joachim Gunsalam (PBS-Kundasang) said they would check the status of the approval for the market site in the Melalap area.

“If it has been approved, there’s no reason for us not to continue the project.

“If it has been approved by the previous government or the current government, there shouldn’t be any reason to stop it. If it hasn’t been approved yet, then we have to wait for its approval,” he said in response to an additional question from Peter regarding the allocation of the market that had been approved by the previous government, amounting to around RM500,000.
