Major General Datuk Mohamed Fauzi Kamis, who serves as the Joint Forces Headquarters chief of staff, was accused of misusing funds belonging to the Armed Forces Welfare Fund, commonly known as TKAT. The 56-year-old officer entered a plea of not guilty immediately after the charge was read before Sessions Court judge Suzana Hussin.

According to the charge, Mohamed Fauzi is accused of committing criminal breach of trust by authorising additional investments amounting to RM5 million into a company without securing approval from the TKAT Investment Committee, a requirement under the fund’s governance structure. Prosecutors maintained that the alleged decision bypassed established procedures meant to safeguard welfare contributions collected for the benefit of armed forces personnel.

The charge was brought under Section 409 of the Penal Code, which deals with criminal breach of trust by a public servant or agent. If found guilty, Mohamed Fauzi faces a potential prison sentence ranging from two to 20 years, along with whipping and the possibility of a fine.

Earlier in the morning, Mohamed Fauzi arrived at the Kuala Lumpur court complex accompanied by officers from the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission. Dressed in a dark blue suit, he appeared calm as he entered the courtroom, briefly acknowledging members of the media: "How are you today?" before proceeding inside. The hearing drew attention from court officials, members of the public and journalists, filling much of the public gallery.

The case adds to heightened public scrutiny surrounding governance and accountability within defence institutions, particularly following recent statements by government leaders stressing that corruption within the military is not merely an administrative issue but a matter of national security.
