Firefighters rescue cat trapped in deep concrete drain near MRT Taman Equine after multiple attempts using ropes, ladders, and a pail

A cat that fell into a large concrete monsoon drain near MRT Taman Equine station was successfully rescued by personnel from the Fire and Rescue Department after a series of attempts.

Video footage shared on Threads showed firefighters trying to save the white-and-brown cat, which appeared trapped in a drain too deep for it to escape on its own.

The person who uploaded the videos documented both the first and second rescue attempts in what appeared to become an “operation to save the cat”.

During the initial attempt, rescuers tried a simple method by lowering an umbrella tied to a rope, hoping the cat would jump onto it. However, the attempt was unsuccessful, possibly because the frightened animal did not understand what was happening.

In the second attempt, a Fire and Rescue Department personnel member tied a safety rope around himself and descended into the drain.

After he reached the bottom, a ladder was lowered into the drain, but that effort also proved unsuccessful.

Rescuers eventually switched tactics and lowered a black pail attached to a rope. The firefighter then carefully placed the cat into the pail before it was safely lifted out of the drain.

The rescue operation ended successfully.

The incident drew praise from netizens, many of whom thanked not only the firefighters involved in the rescue but also the person who reported the trapped animal.

“Thank you for not being blind, deaf and mute,” one user commented. “You are the hero in our hearts.”

Another wrote: “Thank you to the person who rescued the cat and the one who reported the incident.”
