- Director Denis Villeneuve has revealed that accepting the offer to direct the next James Bond film provided the essential creative incentive he required to step away from his acclaimed Dune trilogy after completing the final instalment.
- Villeneuve was officially announced by Amazon MGM Studios in June 2025 as the director of the upcoming 007 film, which features a screenplay written by Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight.
- The upcoming James Bond project represents the first entry in the franchise developed under Amazon MGM Studios' creative control alongside traditional stewards Barbara Broccoli and Michael G Wilson, with Daniel Craig's successor yet to be confirmed.
- Filming for Dune: Part Three, based on Frank Herbert's 1969 novel Dune Messiah, commenced in July 2025 across locations in Abu Dhabi and Hungary, introducing Robert Pattinson, Nakoa-Wolf Momoa and Ida Brooke to the franchise cast.
- The final chapter of the Dune trilogy is scheduled for release in cinemas on 16 December 2026, following the major commercial success and combined eight Academy Award wins of the first two films.
