About 2 weeks ago, the authorities reported that there will be no automatic replacement holiday for the overlap of Malaysia Day and the birthday of Prophet Muhammad SAW (Maulidur Rasul), which both land on September 16 (Monday) this year.

This obviously made a lot of people sad because, well, there wouldn’t be an extra day off.

Well, now, the Human Resource Ministry is allowing employers from the private sector to decide whether they want to observe Maulidur Rasul as an additional public holiday for their staff.

They wrote, “Employers are requested to always be aware of and comply with this notification.”

Basically, Malaysia Day will remain a mandatory public holiday on September 16 (Monday).

Employers from the private sector, on the other hand, have now been given a choice to give their staff an additional day off for Nabi Muhammad’s birthday, either on September 17 (Tuesday) or any other day of their choosing.

Do you think your employer will observe an additional day off for Maulidur Rasul? Do feel free to share your thoughts in the comment section.
