HSBC Malaysia Updates Mobile Wallet Verification for Supplementary Cards

HSBC Malaysia is changing how supplementary credit cardholders verify their cards when adding them to mobile wallets, including Apple Pay, Google Pay, and Samsung Wallet.

Starting 16 February 2026, the current SMS One-Time Password (OTP) verification method will no longer be available for supplementary cards. Instead, primary cardholders must contact HSBC’s Contact Centre directly [PDF] to complete the verification process for each supplementary card. This applies to cards issued by both HSBC Bank Malaysia Berhad and HSBC Amanah Malaysia Berhad.

How To Add Your Supplementary Card After 16 February 2026

The process begins in your mobile wallet app. Add your credit card or credit card-i details and accept the wallet’s terms and conditions.

When you reach the verification stage, select the option to call HSBC Bank Malaysia Berhad or HSBC Amanah Malaysia Berhad, depending on your card type. The verification screen will display the relevant contact number.

The primary cardholder must make this call within 30 days of the provisioning attempt. HSBC Contact Centre agents will verify the cardholder’s identity and activate the card remotely. Once completed, the mobile wallet will confirm that the supplementary card has been successfully added.

What This Means for Cardholders

This change adds an extra verification step requiring primary cardholder involvement. If you frequently use mobile wallets for contactless payments, adding your supplementary cards before 16 February 2026 will avoid the new process entirely.
