KUALA LUMPUR – Human rights group Pusat Komas has criticised independent preacher Zamri Vinoth for allegedly stoking tensions against minority communities through disinformation and inflammatory rhetoric.
The warning follows reports that Zamri is coordinating the Anti-Illegal Worship House Movement (Gerakan Anti Kuil Haram) and plans to hold a rally near Sogo on Saturday, 7 February 2026. Komas has urged the authorities to halt the event.
“Hindu temples in Malaysia have long, complex histories. Post-colonial laws often overlook these sites, which were central to communities built by estate workers and labourers,” the group said in a statement today.
The group stressed that matters involving places of worship must be approached with care, compassion, and historical understanding. “Disputes should continue to be resolved peacefully, as has been done over the years,” it added.
Highlighting Malaysia’s progress in addressing religious and land disputes, the group said, “We must continue to pursue co-existence and recognise that this nation belongs equally to all its citizens.”
It also warned that the campaign could spread misinformation and inflame tensions, calling on the public to uphold national unity and the principles of the Rukun Negara. “Komas urges all Malaysians to reject hateful rhetoric and misinformation,” it said. – February 4, 2026
