Panic gripped the area near the Kotkapura bypass overbridge in Moga today after a highly decomposed human skeleton was discovered in a vacant plot. Local police recovered the remains and have launched an investigation to identify the deceased.

According to ASI Ajit Singh, local residents spotted the remains in the empty plot on Thursday and immediately alerted the authorities. A police team rushed to the scene and, with assistance from a local social service society, took custody of the skeleton.

Preliminary assessments indicate the body is approximately 10 days old and severely decomposed. Investigators estimate the deceased was a young man aged 24 to 25.

Locals noted that another body was found under suspicious circumstances at the same location about a month and a half ago, adding to the community’s concern.

The remains have been moved to the mortuary at Moga Civil Hospital, where they will be kept for 72 hours for identification before further legal and medical procedures. The police are investigating all angles to determine the individual’s identity and the exact cause of death.
