Hungary’s new Prime Minister Péter Magyar is making his inaugural visit to Berlin on Tuesday, just over three weeks after taking office.
Chancellor Friedrich Merz will receive him with full military honours outside the Chancellery at midday, followed by talks and a press conference.
European policy and support for Ukraine are expected to feature prominently on the agenda.
The 45-year-old rising star Magyar secured a two-thirds majority with his centre-right Tisza Party in the Hungarian parliamentary elections in April, ousting the right-wing populist Viktor Orbán after 16 years in power.
Orbán's governments had faced sustained criticism from the European Union over democratic backsliding and rule-of-law concerns. Magyar has pledged sweeping political reforms and a new direction for the country.
Magyar had already made his first foreign trips to Poland and Austria shortly after taking office. Last week he was in Brussels to hold talks with the leaders of the EU and NATO, as well as the Belgian government.
