Kota Kinabalu: A 37-year-old driver, who uttered abusive words towards his ex-wife for not answering his phone calls, was on Tuesday fined RM25 or two days’ jail.

Devis Donald pleaded guilty before Magistrate Lovely Natasha Charles to committing the offence towards the 44-year-old woman at 11am on June 22 in a house at Taman Kepayan Ridge here.

The offence, under Section 8(1)(e) of the Minor Offences Ordinance, provides for RM25 fine, on conviction.

The court was informed by the prosecution that the complainant was at home when Devis threatened her and uttered abusive words towards her for not answering his phone calls.

In another case, two people were fined RM1,500 or three months’ jail each for having illegal gambling paraphernalia.

Unemployed Nur Effa, 31, admitted to having two pieces of illegal lottery tickets at 12.10pm on March 3 at HSK Industrial area, Mile 7, Jalan Tuaran.

Syamri Suharto, 28, pleaded guilty to having four slips of illegal lottery tickets at 4.11pm on Feb 17 in Penampang.

They were each charged under Section 9(1) of the Common Gaming House Act which carries a jail term of up to six months or fine of up to RM3,000, or both, on conviction.
