Kota Kinabalu: Kota Kinabalu MP Chan Foong Hin urged the Sabah Cabinet to expedite setting up the proposed temporary shelter for stateless children in view of the increasing numbers begging on the streets within the city centre.
During the last State Legislative Assembly sitting in November , the State Government had announced that RM250,000 would be allocated to renovate an unused Government house here to address the problem.
Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Mohd Noor had said the stateless children would be housed in a temporary shelter for a maximum of three months and participate in special programmes to learn basic self-management and community living skills.
