Phil Foden was delighted after making his first start of the season against Preston North End on Tuesday night.
The 19-year-old was one of three teenagers, along with Taylor Harwood-Bellis and Eric Garcia, to start in the 3-0 win which booked Manchester City's place in the Carabao Cup fourth-round.
"I'm always happy when I get minutes and I always try and take my opportunity," Foden said.
"I'm so proud of Taylor and Eric today and I'm really happy for Taylor making his debut."
On the game itself, Foden added: "It was about controlling the game and not playing to their strengths," he explained.
"Not giving fouls away in silly areas and not making it a battle. I thought we dealt with that well today.
"It's a great start to the defence and the aim is to try and win it again."
