The Hyundai Stargazer injects excitement into the compact MPV segment.
Hyundai Motor Malaysia (HMY) has injected fresh excitement into the ongoing Kuala Lumpur International Motor Show (KLIMS) 2026 with an exclusive, mid-event teaser preview of its highly anticipated new Hyundai Stargazer. Serving as a limited-time public preview starting today, 15 June, the special showcase offers showgoers a firsthand glimpse into Hyundai’s rapidly expanding mobility lineup and progressive future product direction for the local market.

Redefining Family Spaces: The “Wehicle” Concept
“The new Hyundai Stargazer is what we call a ‘Wehicle’,” noted Ms. Jahabarnisa Haja Mohideen, Managing Director of Hyundai Motor Malaysia. “It’s not just about the car but the people inside and around it. We believe that the WE in ‘WEhicle’ is the most important part and because the ‘WE’ matters, Hyundai designed this car to be a smart and protective road companion for modern families in Malaysia.”

Breaking away from traditional, boxy multi-purpose vehicle silhouettes, the Stargazer adopts a sleek, aerodynamic form highlighted by Hyundai’s signature full-width “H” LED light bar at the tailgate. It’s like a miniature Staria for younger families looking for a bolder, more adventurous edge. HMY is also using the KLIMS platform to showcase the Stargazer X—a distinct, SUV-inspired variant equipped with rugged overfenders, sporty front and rear bumpers, a distinct rear spoiler, and blacked-out branding.

The Hyundai Stargazer will be available in three variants for the Malaysian market. Here’s the estimated pricing for each:
- Stargazer 7-Seater Style: RM99,XXX
- Stargazer 7-Seater Prime: RM109,XXX
- Stargazer 6-Seater X : RM121,XXX
Spacious Sanctuary Packed with Smart Technology
Inside, the three-row cabin is optimized as a spacious sanctuary rather than a basic people mover, delivering premium convenience through accessible, lifestyle-oriented technology. Passengers can enjoy an immersive digital display stretching up to 10.25 inches, a wireless device charging pad, and practical additions like integrated seat-back tables for on-the-go meals or device placements.

The mechanical package relies on an efficient 1.5-litre Smartstream engine paired with a smooth Intelligent Variable Transmission (IVT). Family safety is backed by the comprehensive Hyundai SmartSense ADAS suite, incorporating high-value safety assistance features like Smart Cruise Control with Stop & Go. To secure long-term peace of mind, the model will hit the market backed by a segment-shaking 8-Year/160,000km warranty framework.
Segment Comparison: Hyundai Stargazer vs. Competitors
To see how the upcoming Stargazer positions itself against established local favorites like the Mitsubishi Xpander and Toyota Veloz, here is a breakdown of key technical parameters and pricing structures. The Perodua Alza has been omitted from this comparison as it has an unfair pricing advantage:
| Technical & Commercial Feature | Hyundai Stargazer (Style / Prime) | Mitsubishi Xpander (Standard / Plus) | Toyota Veloz (1.5 A/T) |
| Official Retail Price (OTR) | RM99,XXX to RM109,XXX (Est.) | RM99,980 to RM109,980 | RM95,000 |
| Engine Configuration | 1.5L Smartstream 4-Cylinder | 1.5L MIVEC 4-Cylinder | 1.5L Dual VVT-i 4-Cylinder |
| Maximum Horsepower | ~115 PS | 105 PS | 106 PS |
| Peak Mechanical Torque | ~144 Nm | 141 Nm | 138 Nm |
| Transmission Type | Intelligent Variable Transmission (IVT) | 4-speed Automatic | D-CVT |
| Seating Layout Capacity | 7-Seater Fabric/Semi-Leather | 7-Seater Fabric/Semi-Leather | 7-Seater Combination Leather |
| Infotainment System | Up to 10.25-inch Digital Screen | 9-inch Touchscreen Panel | 9-inch Touchscreen Unit |
| Active Safety Hardware | Hyundai SmartSense ADAS Suite | Active Stability & Traction Control | Toyota Safety Sense ADAS |
| Manufacturer Warranty | 8 Years / 160,000 km Protection | 5 Years / Unlimited Mileage | 5 Years / Unlimited Mileage |
As you can see, Hyundai’s biggest advantage is the warranty, which covers 8-years and 160,000km. ADAS is featured on the Stargazer but is absent on the Xpander models. Power and torque figures are very slightly higher than the rivals but the pricing doesn’t seem to be that aggressive. In fact, Hyundai are banking on customers that are willing to pay a little extra for the higher spec models to get semi-leather or full leather upholstery and more equipment and perhaps even opt for a 6-seater configuration on the X model.
