Malaysia is no longer just a vibrant nation in Southeast Asia—it has blossomed into a trusted global partner. Under Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s dynamic leadership, world leaders and major investors are flocking to our shores, elevating our nation’s diplomatic standing and economic momentum.
- Shigeru Ishiba of Japan (Jan 2025): Japanese Prime Minister Ishiba chose Malaysia as the destination for his first bilateral trip, reinforcing defence ties, ensuring supply chain stability, and exploring rare-earth processing ventures. Trade between Malaysia and Japan recorded a vibrant RM156.75 billion (~US$34.4 billion) in the previous year.
- Xi Jinping’s State Visit (April 2025): Chinese President Xi Jinping visited Malaysia in April, sealing over 30 cooperation agreements spanning digital economy, AI, railways, agriculture, strategic twin industrial parks, and even giant panda conservation. The visit culminated in a joint declaration to build a high-level China–Malaysia strategic community.
- Polish President’s Visit (June 2025): President Andrzej Duda made his first visit to Malaysia since assuming office, marking a significant convergence of diplomatic calendars—Malaysia as ASEAN Chair and Poland holding EU presidency. The agenda covered trade, agriculture, halal sector, and defence cooperation.
- Regional and Global Summit Engagements: At the BRICS Summit in Rio (July 2025), PM Anwar met world leaders including Modi, Ramaphosa, and Lula da Silva—highlighting Malaysia’s strategic global posture.
- ASEAN Chairmanship and Bilateral Outreach: Key visits from Singapore’s Lawrence Wong and Indonesia’s Prabowo Subianto underscore regional solidarity as Anwar leads Malaysia through its ASEAN Chair year.
- Broader Global Attendance: World leaders from Italy, the EU, Canada, Brazil, and South Africa have confirmed attendance at the 47th ASEAN Summit in Kuala Lumpur (Oct 26–28, 2025).
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim expressed pride that Malaysia remains a trusted destination for both diplomacy and business. He highlighted that this confidence is not only a reflection of the government’s commitment but also the resilience, unity, and talent of Malaysians across all backgrounds.
“Malaysia is progressing with strong growth, high-value investments, and an expanding role in technology, artificial intelligence, and the semiconductor industry,” Anwar said recently. “These achievements reflect the harmony of our multicultural society, which continues to be a source of strength and inspiration to the world.”
The Prime Minister also reminded Malaysians, especially the younger generation, to remain focused on building the nation rather than being distracted by divisive debates. “Great nations are racing ahead in digitalisation and AI. We too must focus on innovation and technology, not quarrels and petty disputes,” he stressed.
