A Malaysian student has sparked discussion online after sharing how her mother reacted to her SPM results.

In a post on Threads, the girl expressed heartbreak over what she described as her mother’s harsh response, saying she now feels like she has failed as a daughter.

Says mum no longer wants to see her

In the post, she apologised to her parents, writing that she could not make them proud.

She added that the situation had escalated to the point where her mother no longer wanted to look at her.

I’ve already failed as a daughter. I’m sorry I couldn’t make mum and dad proud, to the point that mum doesn’t even want to look at my face anymore,” she wrote.

In the comment section, the girl thanked netizens for their kind messages and advice.

However, she also revealed another painful moment she experienced at home.

According to her, she woke up to her mother saying, “All you do is sleep, that’s why your results are bad.”

The remark appeared to deepen her sense of disappointment and self doubt.

Netizens rally behind her

Following her post, many Malaysians took to the comments to comfort her and reassure her that exam results do not define her worth.

Some criticised the mother’s reaction, saying it was too harsh.

“Your parents are the ones who failed as parents. You did well already,” one commenter wrote.

Others encouraged her to look ahead and focus on her future instead.

“You haven’t failed. SPM results don’t define you. Your value to your parents is much more than that. You will achieve so much more in the years to come,” another said.

One netizen pointed out that her results were an improvement from her trial exams and suggested she consider retaking Mathematics.

“I understand parents may feel disappointed, but refusing to even look at you feels too harsh,” the commenter added.

Some also urged her to focus on her next steps, including applying for further studies.
