TAN Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said he felt awkward sitting next to Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin in the Dewan Rakyat, especially after Hamzah named him as his current 'number one enemy'.

Muhyiddin, who is also the President of Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia and the Member of Parliament for Pagoh, said that it was also a reason why he did not attend the Parliament sitting this week.

"I did not go to Parliament (this week), one reason being that I am not very well.

"The other is when I heard about sitting next to Hamzah... I did not want to. To be frank, it's not that because I want to be absent, (but) it would be awkward, right?" he said during a special interview with local media at the Bersatu headquarters.

Hamzah, who is also a former Bersatu Deputy President, previously declared himself Muhyiddin's main opponent and called himself the party President's 'enemy number one' after he was expelled from Bersatu on February 13.

Previously, a photo of Muhyiddin's empty seat in the Dewan Rakyat went viral while Hamzah, who was sitting next to Muhyiddin, was still present.

At the same time, Muhyiddin stressed that Hamzah should realise that he is no longer the Leader of the Opposition and should resign gracefully. – March 3, 2026
