Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has warned a political leader to give back all the stolen property and money to the people or face legal action.
The Pakatan Harapan chief issued the ultimatum at the Jelajah Perpaduan Madani ceremony and the launch of the unity pact machinery, saying he would urge authorities to probe the political leader if the assets were not returned.
"I have warned them three times, including tonight, that they must return the money and property stolen from the people," he stated.
"If not, I will request that the authorities conduct an investigation, including going to the person's home, and office, and checking the accounts," he stated, without naming the leader.
"What was stolen will be returned," he stated. He added that stealing from the rakyat cannot be justified.
According to The Star, he also stated that he had directed the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission to investigate ministers who may have been involved in suspicious share or contract transactions.
"The MACC, the Inland Revenue Board, the police, and Bank Negara are doing the investigation. Not me. The prime minister doesn’t deliver punishment, it is the judges," he explained.
He claimed this was done to save the country and prevent the theft of cash that is meant to help the people. He stated that it was critical to eradicate the culture of leaders stealing wealth.
According to Channel News Asia, Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim also declared that he will never forgive those who steal money and betray Malays.
"I forgive those who have imprisoned me, but I will not forgive those who steal money and betray the Malays," he allegedly remarked at the introduction of the state election machinery in Kelantan.
“Many people are blaming us. We, the unity government, are simply carrying out our responsibilities. We wish to help the Malay people.”
