The late Dolly Parton reflected on her legacy before her death at 80, saying she hoped to “leave something good behind”.
Dolly Parton, who was born in a two-room log cabin and rose to become the world’s wealthiest country music star with timeless hits including “9 to 5” and “Jolene,” passed away after a brief battle with cancer on Tuesday (25 August).
Speaking to CBS Mornings in 2024, the iconic singer contemplated how she wanted to be remembered, adding: “I'd like to be thought of as a decent human being. When I'm gone, I'd like you to smile and think, 'Oh, she was funny.'
“I would just like to be known for what I think I am, which is just a regular person.”
Everyone from Taylor Swift and Beyoncé to Eminem and Linda Ronstadt have paid tribute to Parton, describing her as “the gift that kept on giving” and saying her legacy would be “an everlasting one”.
