KUALA LUMPUR — US President Donald Trump announced on Monday that he will soon embark on a visit to Malaysia, Japan, and South Korea, expressing his desire to "be good to China," despite ongoing trade tensions.
Speaking at the White House, Trump maintained an optimistic outlook ahead of a potential meeting next week with Chinese President Xi Jinping in South Korea.
"We’re going to have a fair deal. I want to be good to China. I love my relationship with President Xi," Trump stated during a lengthy exchange with reporters while meeting with Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese.
The President confirmed, "We thought that would be a good place to meet, and we’re going to be meeting. I’ll be in Malaysia, I’ll be in Japan," he said.
While Trump has previously stated plans for a one-on-one discussion with Xi at an upcoming Asia-Pacific economic summit, this marks the first time he has publicly confirmed visits to Malaysia and Japan.
According to Japanese government sources, Trump is expected to arrive in Japan on October 27 for a three-day visit, following his participation in a regional conference in Malaysia focused on Southeast Asian nations and their partners. His visit will conclude in South Korea.
This will be Trump's first trip to the region since beginning his second term in office earlier this year. - October 21, 2025
