Recently, Terengganu Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar took to his official X account to share his visit to the temporary flood relief centre in Besut to check up on the flood victims and to ensure that they have enough supplies to fill their basic needs.

However, a post by Dr Ahmad Samsuri in which he shared his conversation with an elderly woman at the temporary flood relief centre has caught the attention of Malaysians for all the wrong reasons.

This is because the Terengganu Menteri Besar seemed to be oblivious to the sarcastic nature of the senior citizen’s comments to him.

Going viral on X with over 1.4 million views and more than 1,000 reposts, the post shows a smiling Dr Ahmad Samsuri with two other women talking to an elderly woman who was sitting on the floor of the temporary flood relief centre.

In the caption, the Terengganu Menteri Besar asserted,

Granny, are you okay staying here? We burst out laughing because she said that she’s already used to staying here.”

While the post seems innocent and rather cute on the surface, a quick glimpse at the replies shows that many Malaysians find that the elderly woman’s words were actually a sarcastic remark about how Besut and the state of Terengganu in general, are always being plagued by flooding issues. So much so, that she’s now used to staying at a supposedly ‘temporary’ flood relief centre.

Hence, many call out Dr Ahmad Samsuri for being oblivious to this and instead just bursting out laughing at the senior citizen’s words.

One commenter said that the Terengganu Menteri Besar shouldn’t have laughed at this continuously repeating flooding issue in his state that is affecting thousands of people every year.

Meanwhile, another commenter said that Dr Ahmad Samsuri should’ve found solutions and not laughed at the elderly woman’s words and blamed the flood on fate. Besides that, one Malaysian said he was speechless by the post and thought that it was satirical at first.

To be fair to the Terengganu Menteri Besar, he did stress in another X post that the state government is collaborating with the relevant agencies to find the cause and potential solutions to this repeating flooding issue.
