Aside from the RM100 one-off SARA cash aid and an additional public holiday, Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim also announced a surprise “gift” for fellow Malaysians – a lower fuel price, which is now set at RM1.99 per litre from the previous RM2.05 per litre.

During his speech and on his Instagram post last night (July 23), PMX apologised to all Malaysians for the delay in the fuel price reduction – a manifesto he once mentioned would come into effect 24 hours after he became Prime Minister (PM).

Anwar mentioned the country’s huge debts, and the bleak economy that he had to handle when he took over as PM.

Despite the conditions, Anwar said that he never gave up striving to attract investments, create opportunities, and pave the way forward so that the fuel price reduction could happen.

“Today, we reap what we sowed. The Madani government will continue striving to revive the economy to ensure the well-being and uplift the dignity of every Malaysian.”

In response to the additional public holiday on September 15 (Friday), just one day before Malaysia Day on the 16th, Anwar stated that the additional public holiday will allow Malaysians to spend time with family.

On the other hand, Anwar also mentioned that the RM100 cash aid that is not utilised after the valid period will be channelled to the poor next year. The cash aid is expected to benefit over 22 million Malaysians, who can utilise the money for essential items in multiple locations.

During the campaign for the 15th General Election, Anwar also said that he would not take his salary as the PM, a promise that he still kept 6 months after his tenure.

What do you think of Anwar’s special announcement yesterday, and the delay in making the fuel reduction happen?
