There is no shortage of Korean sunscreens on the market right now, with brands producing formulas that focus on hydration and skin barrier support. Haruharu Wonder has become one of the most viral K-beauty brands in the UK and I got my hands on its black rice moisture airyfit SPF 50 to test throughout the summer.
Black rice, one of the key ingredients in the sunscreen, contains antioxidants that are said to protect the skin against environmental stressors like sun exposure or pollution. This is supported by ceramides that add hydration and niacinamide that calms the skin. Haruharu Wonder says this combination of ingredients produces a sunscreen with a lightweight, non-greasy texture – music to my ears as someone with combination skin that tends to be more oily in the summer.
I’ve spent the past few months putting the SPF to the test, incorporating it into my daily skincare routine and testing it under make-up. Here’s my verdict on whether it’s a K-beauty product that should be on your radar.

I’ve tested my fair share of sunscreen over the years, but I’ve found that many formulas leave my skin feeling greasy or produce a white cast. Haruharu Wonder claims its black rice sunscreen won’t do either thanks to its lightweight texture, so I was excited to put it to the test.
On application, there’s a noticeably strong scent, but this soon fades after a minute or so. The handy pump makes it easy to apply the recommended amount of sunscreen using the two-finger rule (two full lines along your index and middle fingers) and it quickly absorbs into the skin, impressively leaving no white cast on my warm skin tone. While some SPFs can feel greasy, the black rice sunscreen has a lightweight texture.
It doesn’t disrupt any make-up I apply on top and crucially manages to somewhat control any oil that my skin would typically produce as the day goes on. While it doesn’t completely stop the shine, I find that when I use this SPF as a base, I use less powder top-ups throughout the day.
After a whole summer of using the sunscreen as part of my daily skincare routine, I’ve also found that my skin has felt less aggravated and spot-prone. While this could be down to other skincare products, SPF is typically the product that contributes to breakouts on my combination skin. My skin has felt calm and balanced, and it’s definitely something I’ll be looking to repurchase as we head into the winter months.

The skincare market is now full of K-beauty formulas, making it even harder to stand out. I’d say Haruharu Wonder’s sunscreen is definitely worth adding to your routine, particularly if you have combination or oily skin.
After months of daily use, I can confidently say I’ve not broken out. It also doesn’t leave my skin feeling greasy or produce any white cast. If you’re sensitive to scent, you may find its fragrance overpowering, but aside from that, it’s a formula that does what Korean skincare does best: calm and soothe the skin.
