PETALING JAYA: International trade and industry minister Tengku Zafrul Aziz has given his statement to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) in its probe into alleged graft in the Jana Wibawa initiative.
The former finance minister said he gave his statement as a witness to MACC yesterday evening.
“I will continue to cooperate with the authorities if needed, thank you,” Tengku Zafrul said in an Instagram post.
The Jana Wibawa programme was a Covid-19 stimulus initiative to help Bumiputera contractors.
It has been mired in controversy after Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said the costs were too high for some projects. He said the projects had been approved without going through a tender process.
Former prime minister Muhyiddin Yassin had revealed that the project had been proposed by Tengku Zafrul, then the finance minister, and that he had agreed to it.
Earlier today, Bersatu information chief Wan Saiful Wan Jan pleaded not guilty to accepting a bribe amounting to close to RM7 million in relation to Jana Wibawa. He was also charged with soliciting an unspecified amount for a road project worth RM232 million.
Wan Saiful and businessman Adam Radlan Adam Muhammad were arrested by MACC yesterday.
