PETALING JAYA: Former Rembau MP Khairy Jamaluddin said he is ready to lead the country and become prime minister.

At a ceramah, the health minister said the time was right to declare his intention of becoming leader of the government.

“One day I want to be your prime minister, to develop this country. But I must win here (Sungai Buloh) first.

“I’m ready, but I must first prove it in Sungai Buloh. If the people here support me, I can inform my party people and then I will enter the dragon’s den,” he said during a ceramah in Taman Saujana Utama.

He added that this was the first time he had declared out loud his intention, claiming that his party’s leadership would “cut him off” for it.

“I think it’s time, I want to say it but perhaps not now. Now, if we win, Ismail Sabri Yaakob will be Malaysia’s prime minister,” he said.

During the general election ceramah, Khairy also revealed how he convinced the Singapore government to reopen its borders with Malaysia.

He said Singapore’s health minister was convinced and relayed his views to Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong.

“That evening, Singapore announced it would open the borders. I’m telling you this to show you I can do things.

“I will be your loudest speaker,” he told the crowd, adding that he will highlight local issues on his social media accounts which have over five million followers.

“If there are floods, I will use my social media and say, ‘menteri besar come and fix this now’,” he said to cheers from the crowd.

Khairy is facing off against Pakatan Harapan’s R Ramanan, Perikatan Nasional’s Ghazali Hamin and Pejuang’s Akmal Yusoff for the Sungai Buloh seat.
