Ian Huntley died from head injury after prison attack, inquest told

  • Soham killer Ian Huntley died from a head injury following an alleged attack at HMP Frankland, an inquest has heard.
  • Huntley, 52, passed away on March 7 at the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle after being reportedly attacked with a metal bar on February 26.
  • Senior coroner Jeremy Chipperfield is presiding over the inquest opening in Crook, County Durham.
  • Anthony Russell, 43, has been charged with Huntley's murder and is scheduled to appear at Newcastle Crown Court on April 24.
  • Huntley was serving a life sentence for the 2002 murders of 10-year-olds Holly Wells and Jessica Chapman in Soham, Cambridgeshire.
