PENAMPANG: A speaker from West Kalimantan at the recent United Nations International Day of World’s Indigenous Peoples, called for Borneo to be popularised as “Dayak Island”.
Bapak Albertus in his paper, “Borneo Indigenous People – Search for a Common Identity”, said: “In the past, indigenous people suffered from injustice, duping, marginalisation, inequality, discrimination and torture which influence their social and cultural life, affected by historical wound and post traumatic syndrome disorder.
“We need to formulate the Dayak Vision and Mission as Borneo’s indigenous peoples to pursue our dignity, sovereignty, and integrity.
“We also need to address the term ‘Dayak’ as the collective name for all indigenous or native groups of Borneo,” he said.
