Kota Kinabalu: IDS CEO Datuk Ts Dr Ramzah Dambul said IDS is keen to collaborate with POIC, particularly in research related activities.
“Findings from the research undertaken may help to mobilise POIC Lahad Datu to its fullest potential and generate revenue for the state, elevating Sabah as one of the nation’s developed states,” he said, following a courtesy call on POIC Chairman Datuk Seri Panglima Yong Teck Lee.
The delegation was led by chairperson Datuk Adeline Leong.
According to Adeline, Sabah’s economic development is accelerating at a rapid pace, hence a discussion with POIC is necessary to analyse the state’s strengths and thoroughly strategise on making the most of Sabah’s resources.
“POIC Lahad Datu has abundance of potential to be the premium investment and logistic hub in the region due to its strategic geographical location situated along the Lombok-Makassar Strait,” she said, stressing that the Indonesia’s capital move to Kalimantan would further increase value and investments to the elaborate infrastructure in Lahad Datu.
In their briefing POIC highlighted on the strength and achievement of POIC Lahad Datu in being the main fertiliser hub in the Asia Pacific region and potentially the world, with the volume of global companies based within the POIC infrastructure.
In terms of Sabah’s overall economic development, the existing infrastructure is in line with the state’s SMJ development plans to elevate and address the state’s socio-economic challenges, by increasing industrial activities into Sabah through high and medium skill employment opportunities.
