Kota Kinabalu: The Institution of Engineers Malaysia (IEM) Sabah Branch looks forward to working more closely with the Lands and Survey Department following the appointment of Alan Chua as its new director.

IEM Sabah Branch Chairman Datuk Yaakob Jaafar said planned areas of engagement include technical dialogues, policy discussions, capacity-building programmes and digital transformation initiatives.

“We are confident that through close cooperation between engineers and land surveyors, Sabah will continue to progress towards resilient and sustainable development,” he said.

Yaakob said the appointment showed the State Government’s confidence in Alan’s professional standing and leadership qualities.

The Lands and Survey Department oversees land administration, spatial planning and development control, functions that directly underpin infrastructure delivery, including road networks, drainage systems and utility corridors across Sabah.

Yaakob said effective land governance was central to engineering project delivery and would be key to advancing the state’s Sabah Maju Jaya 2.0 agenda, particularly in flood mitigation and economic growth.
