The date of GE15 has been set as Saturday, November 19, 2022. Just like all of the general elections before, there are bound to be some controversies before the general election. This time, the highlight of pre-GE15 is Najib Razak.
The imprisoned former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak will have to sit out this election as lawmakers prepare for the forthcoming month of campaigns.
However, Nooryana Najwa Najib is not one to give up easily though. She is furious over the treatment her ‘daddy’ received and thinks it is unfair that her ‘daddy’ is banned from campaigning for GE 15.
In a recent Instagram post, Nooryana questioned why her father cannot campaign for GE 15 while incarcerated, despite opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim being permitted to do so in 2015.
Is it the fact that he is Najib? Nooryana posed a question in her post and included images of two news stories. Anwar was described in a May 2015 article as "campaigning" with his wife Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, the head of the PKR at the time Anwar was imprisoned on a second sodomy allegation.
Nooryana compared it with the second news, the article quotes Supri Hashim, senior director of the prisons department, and claims that Najib is not permitted to make political statements from behind bars.
Najib still has the Pekan seat as of this writing, and his Facebook page is still live. The account is thought to be managed by his account administrator, who often publishes updates and comments criticising opposition leaders.
Najib was found guilty of corruption in July 2020 concerning money from the former company of 1Malaysia Development Bhd, SRC International Sdn Bhd (1MDB).
He was found guilty by the court in August of this year. In addition to being tried in other 1MDB-related offences, he must serve 12 years in prison and pay an RM210 million fine.
