The first bonus is that Najib is guaranteed to walk out of jail as a free man and be pardoned by the King once BN-UMNO wins GE15 with a big majority.
A second bonus for Malaysia is all criminal charges against Najib and Zahid will be withdrawn.
Tun Mahathir warned that UMNO would rush to release Najib from prison through a royal pardon as well as drop other corruption charges if it were to win the election.
"Should they be able to win and form the government, that is the first objective, not about the welfare of the people," Mahathir. (MalaysiaNow)
Immediately I felt depressed once I read the statement made by Tun Mahathir.
I became more depressed when I read what Lim Kit Siang had to say next.
"One of the explicit or implicit objectives of UMNO in the general election is to free Najib and the other protagonists of the 1MDB scandal from criminal liability," DAP veteran Lim Kit Siang said in a statement.
I was equally shocked when I read that MIC had included freeing Najib as one of its major objectives in the party's manifesto.
Although its president Tan Sri SA Vigneswaran later denied media reports that one of the items on the party’s manifesto was to free former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak, the damage is done. (The Star)
We understand that politics is self-interest. But to make freeing a convicted criminal who squandered funds from the national coffers as a campaign platform is indeed preposterous and irresponsible for any party in a democracy.
That made the rakyat more depressed and angry against parties in the BN-UMNO coalition.
We are depressed and angry because we are pushed into a corner helpless, unable to do anything to change the tide against this juggernaut called BN-UMNO which has made it a priority of freeing their convicted leader as a priority not serving the rakyat which they should be doing.
The depression gets worse when I think we shall be saddled with yet another "bonus" with Zahid Hamidi the President of UMNO and Chairman of the BN-UMNO coalition as a Prime Minister of this country which is already world-famous as a kleptocracy, abhorred by many other nations who have since been involved in investigations about 1MDB.
The choice is obvious.
I have to overcome my depression and exercise my vote to get rid of these people from power.
I hope you too will do likewise, never mind the weather as long as we are together in this struggle to free our nation of kleptocrats.
We can do without these bonuses that will accompany a UMNO-BN victory.
Let's make sure Mahathir-Kit Siang's prophecies do not come true.
