Italy faced off against Finland in a meeting of the top two teams in Group J.
However, the Italians came away with a tight 2-1 win away from home.
They took the lead through Ciro Immobile, before Teemu Pukki equalised with a spot kick.
But Jorginho's penalty in the 79th minute was enough to claim all three points for the Italians.
There was also bad news for Chelsea, with left back Emerson Palmieri only managing eight minutes in the game before going off with injury.
