THE Inspector-General of Police, Tan Sri Razarudin Husain, has extended the Royal Malaysia Police’s (PDRM) appreciation to media practitioners for their continued support in conveying accurate and reliable information to the public—efforts he said directly contribute to the nation’s security, stability, and harmony.
Speaking at the IGP's Appreciation Ceremony with the Media held in Bukit Aman today, Razarudin described the media as an “important entity” in communicating the force’s commitment to constitutional supremacy and the fair enforcement of laws across all layers of society.
“The strong cooperation between PDRM and the media is built on a shared responsibility to disseminate accurate and transparent information in the interest of justice, regardless of the situation,” he said.
Razarudin also highlighted the influence wielded by the press, describing it as a “unique power” capable of shaping public opinion and trust, positioning media professionals as strategic allies in combating negative elements and reinforcing national security.
“The media has a ‘unique power’ that can influence the minds and win the hearts of the public, making them strategic partners in efforts to strengthen security and curb negative influences,” he added.
He noted that the police force values journalists not only as messengers and the voice of the people but also as impartial observers who can provide constructive criticism to improve PDRM’s service delivery and transparency.
“The responsibilities of police officers and media practitioners are centred on safeguarding national security, fostering racial harmony, and promoting inclusive national unity,” said Razarudin.
He emphasised that the dissemination of information must align with the rights and needs of the public to maintain institutional trust and social relevance.
Reaffirming the force’s commitment to fostering media collaboration, Razarudin said this synergy reflects the values of the Malaysia MADANI framework, which emphasises mutual respect, inclusivity, and sustainable development.
“PDRM continues to adopt a pragmatic approach in strengthening relations with the media, in line with the theme ‘Polis dan Masyarakat Berpisah Tiada’ (Police and Community: No Separation),” he added. - May 26, 2025
