Illegal crude palm oil storage bust in Tawau

TAWAU: A suspected illegal crude palm oil (CPO) storage operation was uncovered by the Sabah Marine Police Force (PPM) Region 4 after raiding a premises in Kg Nasib Kita, Balung, on Friday.

PPM Region 4 Sabah Commander ACP Ahmad Amri Abd Rahman said police seized a 38-tonne lorry carrying about 30,000 litres of CPO during the raid.

He said several drums containing CPO were also seized, bringing the total estimated value of the seizure to more than RM400,000.

Two individuals were arrested to assist investigations after they were believed to be involved in storing CPO without a valid licence issued by the Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB).

“The case is being investigated under Regulation 5(1)(d) of the Malaysian Palm Oil Board (Licensing) Regulations 2005, under the Malaysian Palm Oil Board Act 1998 (Act 582), for storing palm oil without a valid licence,” he said in a statement on Saturday.

Ahmad Amri said PPM Region 4 Sabah would continue to strengthen enforcement operations with relevant agencies to curb illegal activities and protect the interests of the country’s palm oil industry.
