Kota Kinabalu: The key to resolving the issue of undocumented immigrants lay in genuine political will and collaboration between Sabah and the Federal, said activist-cum-surgeon Dr Chong Eng Leong.

“Simply talking about the problem without taking meaningful and decisive action will not see progress in addressing this issue,” he said after unveiling his latest book, “Population Explosion and Demographic Shift in Sabah,” at the G.C. Woolley Hall in the State Museum on Saturday.

His book includes proposed solutions which includes tackling corruption among enforcement units, advocating the setting up of a Philippine consulate in Sabah and Malaysian consulates in Nunukan and Zamboanga and establishing a Special State Secretariat overseeing immigrant arrangement.

Dr Chong is sceptical about the effectiveness of the State Government’s digital registration of foreigners.
