MANILA, Philippines — Sen. Imee Marcos expressed disappointed with the decision of the International Criminal Court (ICC) asserting jurisdiction over the case of former president Rodrigo Duterte.
In a statement on Wednesday, Marcos said, "This determination disregards the Philippines’ sovereign withdrawal from the Rome Statute."
It also undermined the "fundamental principle that domestic institutions must be given primacy where they are able and willing to act," she said.
"At its core, this development raises serious concerns about the inviolate respect for national sovereignty and the proper limits of international jurisdiction," said Marcos, a Duterte ally.
"Justice must be pursued in a manner consistent with our Constitution, our laws, and the integrity of our own judicial processes," she added.
