The Malaysian Immigration Department (JIM) raided 2 entertainment centers in Taman Mount Austin, Johor, on Saturday (November 2) at 1:30am after they were discovered to have been providing packages for Thai customer service girls or guest relations officers (GROs), starting as low as RM50.
Apparently, the premises also offered for the GROs, whose job is to accompany thirsty men and more, to be taken home at low prices.
According to a statement shared by JIM Johor, Director of JIM Johor Datuk Mohd Rusdi Mohd Darus shared that 36 Thai women and 2 Thai men were arrested in the raid, who are believed to be exploited for the purpose of prostitution.
“Also arrested were 3 men from Myanmar and one man each from Laos and Vietnam. All the GROs and foreign men who were detained are aged 21 to 47,” he said.
Additionally, 3 local men, who are the owners of the premises and a caretaker, aged between 19 and 52, were also arrested.
Preliminary investigations also found that the foreigners had entered Malaysia using the Social Visit Pass (PLS) as tourists but misused the facilities provided by JIM.
The foreign GROs are believed to have used pseudonyms to hide from the eyes of law enforcement, but their tactics were detected with various evidence found at the 2 raided premises.
While the 3 local men have been detained under Section 56(1)(d) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 (Act 155), the foreigners involved have been placed at the Setia Tropika Immigration Depot under various sections of the same act as well as the Immigration Regulations 1963.
