The Immigration Department conducted an operation dubbed 'Ops Selera' at premises in Taman Abad last night, resulting in the arrest of 24 immigrants suspected of working without valid passes or permits. According to Baharuddin Tahir, the director of Johor Immigration, the raid, which took place at 9:55 pm, led to the apprehension of individuals from various nationalities.

Among those arrested were 13 Indonesian men, two Indonesian women, four Yemeni men, and five Pakistani men, with ages ranging from 20 to 52 years old. These individuals were found to be in violation of several immigration laws, including Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 for lacking valid passports or permits, Section 15(1)(c) of the same act for overstaying, and Regulation 39(b) of the Immigration Regulations 1963 for violating prescribed pass conditions.

In addition to the arrests, nine individuals were issued notices to appear at the immigration office to assist with further investigation. Baharuddin emphasized the department's commitment to enforcing immigration laws and ensuring compliance with regulations governing the presence of foreign nationals in Malaysia.

The operation underscores the ongoing efforts of the Immigration Department to address issues related to undocumented immigrants and unauthorized employment. Such operations not only aim to uphold the integrity of Malaysia's immigration system but also serve to safeguard national security and protect the interests of local workers.

The crackdown on illegal immigration is part of a broader strategy to maintain law and order within the country while promoting fair employment practices. By targeting individuals who flout immigration laws, authorities seek to deter others from engaging in similar unlawful activities and promote a culture of compliance among both employers and foreign workers.

Moving forward, the Immigration Department remains vigilant in its enforcement efforts, employing various strategies and initiatives to identify and address instances of immigration violations effectively. Through collaborative efforts with other relevant agencies and stakeholders, the department endeavours to uphold Malaysia's immigration laws and contribute to the overall well-being of society.
