The Immigration Department conducted a raid on a recycling factory in Klang, resulting in the arrest of 48 undocumented migrants, aged 16 to 78, along with the apprehension of the factory director, a local man in his 50s. During the operation, Immigration director-general Datuk Ruslin Jusoh revealed that RM688,000 in cash, four mobile phones, eight passports, and various company documents were seized.

According to Datuk Ruslin Jusoh, the detained foreigners were found to have committed two offenses: residing in the country without valid travel passes and work permits. Additionally, the factory owner, a Chinese national, was found to have unlawfully employed undocumented migrants, contravening Section 55(b) of the Immigration Act.

The significant amount of cash discovered during the raid was purportedly intended for the payment of workers' salaries. However, further verification will be conducted as part of the ongoing investigation. Initial findings indicate that the company provided accommodation within the factory premises and paid its workers monthly salaries ranging from RM2,000 to RM3,000. The factory has been operational for two years.

All detainees have been transferred to the Bukit Jalil Immigration Depot for further legal proceedings. Additionally, two local individuals employed at the factory have been summoned to provide their statements at the Immigration headquarters.

The investigation will encompass various legal frameworks, including the Immigration Act 1959/63, the Passport Act 1966, the Immigration Regulations 1964, and the Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants Act 2007. The authorities remain committed to upholding immigration laws and ensuring the safety and security of the nation.

This incident underscores the ongoing efforts to combat illegal immigration and uphold the integrity of Malaysia's immigration system. The Immigration Department continues to enforce strict measures to deter undocumented migration and hold accountable those who flout immigration laws. Such operations are vital for maintaining law and order and safeguarding the interests of both citizens and migrants within the country.
