PUTRAJAYA – The Immigration Department is undergoing restructuring soon to empower its human resource capability by creating new posts which do not give financial implications to the government.
Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said discussion is being carried out and the ministry had identified several proposals to provide better career paths to serving immigration personnel.
Speaking in at a media conference after an Immigration Department operation briefing here today, Saifuddin said following this, the Home Affairs Ministry would be holding discussions with the Public Service Department on the matter.
“(The issue) is that part of the supporting team have high qualifications, but the posts they are holding are low – (and) even though they could fill the positions, vacancies are limited,” he said.
The Immigration Department has a staff strength of 14,142 people and from the total, 97% are from the supporting group even though there are among them who have high academic qualifications.
In another development, he said national border control was among the matters discussed in his meeting with Thai Deputy Prime Minister Gen Prawit Wongsuwan yesterday at Seri Perdana here.
He said Malaysia and Thailand are committed to improving border control apart from agreeing to hold follow-up measures involving the security forces of both countries.
“This is not particularly over the bombing incidents in southern Thailand or in Bandung (Indonesia), but a continuous commitment as both countries have close relations (with Malaysia),” he said.
In this regard, he also advised Malaysians visiting abroad to be sensitive to current developments especially on the visiting destinations apart from planning their journeys to be away from high-risk locations. – Bernama, December 9, 2022
