TAWAU: An Immigration officer pleaded not guilty to 17 charges of accepting bribes amounting to RM14,250.

Katika Dewiana Bacho, 37, made the plea before Sessions Court Judge Jason Juga, to the 17 charges against her, on Tuesday.

AdvertisementOn the first to 17 counts, Katika is accused of receiving a valuable item, which is cash, without any compensation transferred from the personal Maybank account of one Eryano Jabar, 58, amounting to RM14,250.

Katika allegedly received all of the bribes from an individual with a connection to her official duties, where Eryano was responsible for managing foreign nationals through the Immigration counter at Tawau Airport (LTT) to Kuala Lumpur.

All charges under Section 165 of the Penal Code, which provides for a punishment of imprisonment for up to two years or a fine, or both, if found guilty.

AdvertisementThe court released Katika on bail of RM10,000 with RM2,000 deposited, along with additional conditions requested by the prosecution, including surrendering her international passport to the court, reporting to the MACC office every two months, and being prohibited from approaching prosecution witnesses.

The court set March 11 this year for mention.
