THE impeachment complaint against President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. was sent to Speaker Faustino Dy III’s office on Tuesday.
“Pursuant to established procedure, the Office of the Secretary General has transmitted the verified impeachment complaint to the Office of Speaker Faustino ‘Bojie’ Dy III for appropriate action,” House Secretary-General Cheloy Velicaria-Garafil said on Wednesday.
Lawyer Andre de Jesus filed the complaint on Jan. 19, and it was endorsed by House Deputy Minority Leader and Pusong Pinoy Rep. Jett Nisay. On the same day, Dy said he saw no basis to justify the impeachment complaint.
“It is clear that our president is fulfilling the mandate entrusted to him by the public, according to law,” Dy said in Filipino in a statement.
“In the reopening of session, the House is focused on passing meaningful laws that will truly uplift the lives of the Filipino people,” he said.
The House is on a scheduled break and will resume session on Monday.
Among the allegations in the impeachment complaint filed was that Marcos violated the 1987 Constitution and betrayed public trust “by surrendering” former president Rodrigo Duterte to the International Criminal Court (ICC).
In March 2025, Duterte was brought to the Netherlands after his arrest based on a warrant from The Hague-based ICC, which had investigated him in connection with the bloody drug war that killed thousands of drug suspects during his presidency.
He is awaiting trial for crimes against humanity.
