With its dazzling white sand, crystal-clear waters and peaceful atmosphere, Siesta Beach continues to set the standard for America's coastline. In 2026, this spectacular stretch of shore on Florida's west coast has once again been crowned the best beach in the United States.
Beneath the Florida sunshine, powdery white sand—cool beneath your feet—meets calm turquoise waters.
Located on Siesta Key, just a few miles from Sarasota, Siesta Beach has retained its position as America's number one beach in The World's 50 Best Beaches 2026 rankings. Compiled from the votes of more than 1,000 travel professionals, specialist journalists and tourism ambassadors, the annual list celebrates the world's most outstanding beaches.
This year, Siesta Beach also ranks seventh in the overall North American standings, reinforcing its reputation as one of the continent's must-visit seaside destinations.

A beach famous for its extraordinary sand
The first thing visitors notice is the beach's breathtaking expanse of pristine white sand. Unlike most beaches in the United States, Siesta Beach's sand is made up almost entirely of quartz—a rare geological feature that gives it its brilliant white appearance.
This unique composition has another welcome benefit in Florida's subtropical climate: even on the hottest days, the sand remains pleasantly cool underfoot. Its texture feels more like fine powder than conventional beach sand.
The beach's remarkable width further enhances the sense of space. Visitors are treated to sweeping views where the bright white shoreline meets the shimmering blue waters of the Gulf of Mexico. It's a striking landscape that has played a major role in the beach's international reputation.

Calm waters on the Gulf of Mexico
Siesta Beach is equally renowned for its excellent swimming conditions. A gentle slope allows visitors to wade gradually into the sea, while the soft sandy seabed makes swimming particularly comfortable.
Judges for The World's 50 Best Beaches regularly highlight the area's consistently calm conditions and easy access to the water—two key factors in their assessment. Families especially appreciate the combination of shallow waters and generally gentle seas.
Depending on the light, the water shifts between pale turquoise and deep sapphire blue. Rather than adrenaline-fuelled watersports, the setting lends itself to relaxation and quiet contemplation. Here, time seems to slow as gentle waves softly lap against the shore.
An island that's easy to explore
Stretching for around 13 kilometres (8 miles), Siesta Key is a barrier island bordering the Gulf of Mexico. Connected to the mainland by several bridges, it is easily reached from nearby Sarasota, a city renowned for its thriving arts scene and elegant neighbourhoods.
Once on the island, visitors can make use of the free Breeze 77 trolley, which serves Siesta Key's main districts. The shuttle provides convenient transport between restaurants, shops, residential areas and the island's different beaches.
Beyond its spectacular shoreline, Siesta Key offers the laid-back atmosphere that has become synonymous with Florida's Gulf Coast. As evening approaches, cafés and restaurant terraces fill with people, while spectacular sunsets draw both locals and visitors to the waterfront.

Hawaii and Puerto Rico follow close behind
Competition was fierce. The 2026 ranking of America's best beaches also includes Flamenco Beach in Puerto Rico, Magens Bay in the U.S. Virgin Islands, and several Hawaiian gems: Kapalua Beach, Waimānalo Beach, Lanikai Beach, Hapuna Beach and Waiʻānapanapa State Park. Henderson Beach in Florida also features among the country's top-rated coastal destinations.
Despite this exceptionally strong field, Siesta Beach has retained its position as America's number one beach for the second consecutive year. The achievement confirms the enduring appeal of this Gulf Coast paradise, whose almost unreal white sands continue to captivate both tourism experts and travellers from around the world.
