SIBU, Oct 13 — A 38-year-old driver was killed while his 57-year-old passenger sustained a broken left leg in a single-vehicle accident involving a four-wheel drive at Mile 16, Jalan Sibu-Bintulu yesterday.

Sibu Zone 4 Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) chief Andy Alie said they were notified about the incident at 6.40pm, and firefighters from the Sibu Jaya fire station were dispatched to the location.

“After conducting an assessment, the operation commander instructed firefighters to use rescue tools to remove the two victims from the vehicle,” he said in a statement.

Andy said the driver was pronounced dead at the scene by Ministry of Health paramedics.

The body of the deceased was handed over to the police for further action, while the injured victim was sent to the hospital for treatment.

After ensuring the area was safe, the firefighters ended the operation at 7.50pm. — The Borneo Post
